About The Playwrights’ Center
Founded in 1971 by five writers seeking artistic and professional support, The Playwrights’ Center is now “the biggest and most innovative playwriting center in the country” (Michael Bigelow Dixon, Guthrie Theater Literary Director).

“Any self-respecting playwright [should be involved with] The Playwrights’ Center.”
    Edward Albee

Programs and Services
The Playwrights’ Center operates programs in four core areas of focus:

Membership Fellowships Easton Lab PlayLabs
America’s only national nonselective educational and developmental program for playwrights, Center membership is available for an affordable $40-75 a year to anyone who wishes to join. More> Through the McKnight and Jerome Foundations, the Ruth Easton Fund, and other partners, the Center now awards over $200,000 each year in fellowships, residencies, commissions, and development funds. More> We get plays ready for production in the Ruth Easton Playwriting Lab. The Center’s Core Writers view our Lab as a prized national opportunity for working on their plays. “One of the nation’s most prestigious developmental events,” our annual new play festival spans two weeks in July and culminates in a public festival of bold new work.
