VIRGINIA PREMIERE THEATRE
Seeking new plays for production in 2009-2010
Virginia Premiere Theatre, a professional company in residence at the Kimball Theatre in Williamsburg, VA, is seeking new, full-length plays to develop and produce. Play requirements: 7 or less characters. Not considering short one-acts, full-scale musicals or published plays. We are considering "pocket musicals" or plays with music. Playwright must be willing to refine script in proactive ensemble approach. We are particularly interested in plays from abroad.

Artistic considerations focus on plays of inherent social value, plays with a unique voice and plays with inherent theatricality. We prefer not to review plays that resemble television or film scripts.

Virginia Premiere Theatre believes in the vital importance of the playwright to the American Theatre and to the art form in general. We offer reasonable royalties and guarantees as generally defined by industry standards. Housing, transportation and some rehearsal reimbursement are usually available. Virginia Premiere Theatre makes no attempt to "participate" in future playwright royalties; however, we do ask for your best efforts to ensure future playbill and publication credit. Should a play achieve financial success, we ask that playwrights consider making a generous donation to the not-for-profit company that gave the play its first push into sunlight.

Please submit synopsis and letter of inquiry to:

THE WILLOWS THEATRE COMPANY
Concord, CA
We are committed to live theatre as an art form and to the development of new works. We have largely a suburban audience whose sensibilities and tastes have been developed over a number of years of continued attendance. The audience is loyal, faithful and trusting in our sense of adventure and good taste.

Typically, The Willows Theatre Company produces at least one world premiere (or second production) in each season. Likewise, we produce many West Coast or Northern California premieres. We produce exclusively from contemporary American Theatre but will consider certain stylized plays and musicals which have a contemporary edge to them.

How to submit your work:

* The Willows Theatre Company is accepting submissions of comedies ONLY. We are not looking for dramas or musicals at this time. We do not produce one-acts at any time.
* Please submit a brief synopsis, character breakdown, and playwright resume. Please include a SASE for return of materials and our response.
* Please allow six months for a reply.
* Please do not send a full script unless invited to do so.
* Please do not email your submission or email the office for information on the status of your submission.

Our cast sizes vary but we are not daunted by large casts. If you look at our production history, we typically will have 15 or more in each production.

Please send materials to:

Willows Theatre Company
1425 Gasoline Alley
Concord, CA, 94520

We compensate all of our performers and operate under a LORT-LOA contract with AEA. We are members of TCG, the Institute for Outdoor Drama, Theatre Bay Area, and the National Alliance of Musical Theatre.

Please click here (http://www.willowstheatre.com/Performance_History/Performance_history_1975.htm) to see the list of past productions at the Willows. PEAR AVENUE THEATRE
For San Francisco Bay Area playwrights
Part of the Pear Avenue Theatre's mission is to provide ongoing opportunities for San Francisco Bay Area playwrights to have their work heard and produced. To that end, we have a Playwright's Guild, a group that meets once a month to help each other in development of their work; and staged readings throughout the year. The Guild members also have an evening of short plays each spring; submissions are adjudicated and about 8 plays selected for development and full production.

In addition, each year we do a series of readings of full-length works in February or March, and then select at least one of them to include in next year's season as a full production. The selected work undergoes a development process, including workshops with dramaturgical assistance, before its premiere.

Full-length submissions from Bay Area playwrights for possible readings and/or productions are welcome all year. Work should be no more than 8-10 characters (or no more than that number of actors with doubling) and producible on a black box stage in an intimate house (the Pear seats 40). It can have had previous readings, but should not have been produced elsewhere, even in an earlier version.

Send a hard copy of the play with cover letter to:

Attn: Diane Tasca, Artistic Director
Pear Avenue Theatre
1220 Pear Avenue
Mountain View, CA 94043

DETROIT REPERTORY THEATRE
Detroit, MI
The Detroit Repertory Theatre welcomes new plays for production at our 194-seat, proscenium stage theatre. Our New Playwrights' Program is not a competition, festival, workshop or staged reading program. We consider plays writers feel are ready for production, not development.

We are interested in issue-oriented plays (a comedic approach is fine); 5 to 7 characters, no double casting; and we avoid plays that require children. No one-acts, please. We are not accepting musicals at this time.

Each season we produce at least one original work. All plays submitted should:

* Be bound in a folder
* Have cast list provided
* Be typewritten in proper manuscript form with pages numbered
* Include a SASE for return of the manuscript

THE WOMEN’S THEATRE PROJECT
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Through compelling theatre, The Women’s Theatre Project creates an environment that explores the female voice. Spanning the generations, we are forging community partnerships to develop a legacy. The Women’s Theatre Project is the only professional theatre company in the country that is consistently producing theatrical works that are written and performed exclusively by women. Our theatre company is providing a truly unique cultural experience for South Florida audiences.

As we enter our fourth season of theatrical works written exclusively by women, The Women’s Theatre Project continues to explore unique programming options. In addition to main stage productions, we present staged readings in a format that allows our theatre company to continue pursuing our practice of “alternative casting” (casting women of diverse races who normally do not have the opportunity to perform certain roles).

The Women's Theatre Project of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, produces plays by women, about women, for everyone. TWTP is seeking new full-length scripts with two or more characters by female playwrights. Female characters only. No musicals or children's scripts.

SMITH AND KRAUS PUBLISHING
Seeking short comedic scenes for kids & teens
Janet Milstein is currently accepting submissions for publication in two short scene books to be published by Smith and Kraus Publishers. The scenes are 60 & 90 second (or under) comedic scenes for kids and teens. Think sitcoms—short and lots of punches—last punch the biggest! Also keep characters close to the actors' actual ages and try to give both actors equal opportunity to shine. The scenes are used at Comedy Competitions, so please submit material that is strong enough to win!

Writers will be paid $20 per short scene. For full submission guidelines, please contact Monologues@msn.com. Writers whose short scenes are selected will be contacted.

THE DYNAMO THEATER LAB
Vassar College
The Dynamo Theater Lab, sponsored by the Vassar College Drama Department, is seeking playwrights to help us experiment with the process of theater making. In the spring of 2008, our company will use new plays as a springboard to explore rehearsal and performance possibilities. We hope to discover new methods of bringing plays to an audience by changing the parameters of the rehearsal process. Over the course of six weeks, we will work on three previously unproduced plays. Each play will be rehearsed for one week and then presented to the public. After three weeks we will repeat the cycle, giving each play another round of rehearsal and public presentation, to incorporate lessons we learned from the first incarnation and to test out new ideas. Neither workshop readings nor polished productions, the work we create in this condensed period will invite our audiences into a dynamic, immediately imaginative experience.

We are interested in working with different types and styles of plays, but are especially seeking texts that experiment with theatrical form or that deal with important contemporary issues. Because the Dynamo Lab will consist of 12-15 Vassar students, medium to large cast sizes are encouraged. Most of all, we are interested in starting conversations with playwrights, to discuss your ideas for our proposed experiment and what part you could see yourself taking in it.

If you are interested in collaborating, please contact us at dynamotheater@gmail.com.

THE YORK THEATRE COMPANY
The York Theatre Company’s Developmental Reading Series presents some 40 readings and workshops of new musicals by emerging and established authors throughout the year, free of charge to the public and the writers. These readings are a vital part of the writing process. Post-performance discussions are occasionally held with audiences. This series also serves as an incubator for shows to be considered for Mainstage production, thus serving the York's unique mission of taking new musicals through the complete development process to full production.

Would you like to submit a show for inclusion in the Developmental Reading Series?

Our mission here at York concerns musicals only; we do not accept submissions of plays. A completed script must be submitted, as well as a sound recording of at least most of the songs. If you’d like your materials returned, you must enclose a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope.

As we are one of the only theatres in the country which accepts unsolicited scripts, we receive around 400-500 scripts per year. We pride ourselves on properly evaluating each script, which takes time as we have a small staff and a loyal group of volunteer readers. It generally takes at least 6 to 12 months to get a script through our entire process.

Material should be submitted to:

York Theatre Company

DIXON PLACE
Dixon Place is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 to provide a space for literary and performing artists to create and develop new works in front of a live audience. Our mission to support and nurture the development of new work from diverse artists and to build new audiences for the work is carried out through five main programming objectives:

-- to present and encourage new and experimental work in performance art, literature, dance, and music by providing a venue for emerging and established artists to develop this new work in a safe, supportive environment
-- to discover the needs and interests of artists of color by providing a venue in which cultural, personal, and societal issues may be explored and addressed
-- to furnish gay and lesbian writers and performing artists with the opportunity to present their work in a supportive and non-homophobic atmosphere
-- to give writers of poetry, prose, nonfiction and science fiction the chance to read and/or speak before an audience
-- and to contribute to the community through periodic AIDS benefits and by making Dixon Place available as a meeting place for social change organizations.
All the work at Dixon Place is selected and presented (we do not rent out the space for shows), and the artists are remunerated. Dixon Place has performances 5-7 nights a week, and performers are generally allotted one shared evening. Most of the presented work is new and developing. Dixon Place is committed to maintaining an intimate yet relaxed environment, while providing a serious laboratory for performing and literary artists.

Please Note: We accept submissions only from artists based in the NYC area.

Extensive guidelines and specific program descriptions at:
http://dixonplace.org/html/submissions.php

To help us be more efficient in the reviewing of submissions, please read about our ongoing series on our website and submit proposals directly to the series you think is the "best fit". Keep in mind that you are sending an idea or proposal for a performance. Your proposal does not need to be a polished piece when you submit the work, and if selected, it should still be in a 'work-in-progress' stage when you perform it.

Works chosen are provided an honorarium, rehearsal time, inclusion in our season brochures, website presence, and technical assistance. If you have any questions, please email submissions@dixonplace.org.

Send submissions to Dixon Place, 258 Bowery, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10012

URBAN STAGES EMERGING PLAYWRIGHT AWARD
Established in 1986, Urban Stages’ Emerging Playwright Award has been presented to the best of new, innovative playwrights whose works speak to the whole of our society. Urban Stages’ ongoing mission is to develop and produce new, exciting multicultural works that are issue oriented.

Important: no scripts, pictures and resumes accepted by e-mail.

* When To Submit: Submissions are received throughout the year. Finalists are first included as part of the Urban Stages fall or spring reading series. The award is then announced in the spring. Plays that are finalists are presented as staged and workshop readings. These readings are a collaboration between playwright and director.

* Award: A cash prize of $500 (in lieu of royalties) will be awarded to the winner. There will also be a staged production of the play in New York City. Urban Stages reserves the right to withhold the prize and not declare a winner if no play of merit is found. Before production of the award winning play, a contract will be signed between the playwright and the company. This contract is approved by the Dramatists Guild.
* Eligibility: Full length plays are preferred. Submissions are open to playwrights in the United States. Plays may have been developed elsewhere, but never produced in New York City. There is no limit to submission. Subject matter and character variations are open.

*Genre: We prefer full length plays for submission. No translations or adaptations. On RARE occasions, Urban Stages will consider exceptional musicals and one-act plays that fit our mission. We do; however, consider plays for younger audiences for our outreach program.

*Cast Size: Cast size is limited to no more than nine actors.

*To Be Included With Every Submission: A biography and/or author's history of the play, character breakdown, and brief description or synopsis of the play.

* Submission Format: All scripts must be firmly bound. No changes or revisions accepted after submission. No double-sided pages.

PUBLIC WORKS THEATRE
Public Works Theatre is a new company dedicated to producing new works of theatre for all members of the community, including people who don't necessarily define themselves as "theatre people." We are especially interested in producing plays by and for young people, and producing new works of musical theatre.

We are looking for two new plays for our first season, to be premiered next year, as outlined below. Before each script is given the full treatment, we hope to take it through several stages of drafting, workshopping and scratch performances, as necessary. We encourage playwrights to submit material that incorporates music, dance, puppetry and masks, and which deals with the subject matter in an unconventional manner.

"PLAY THE FIRST:" A play written for young people, ages fourteen to sixteen, that deals with current events, issues that are important to that age group, or challenging material. We want to be able to show teenagers that not all theatre is a boring, cultural endurance test, but a vibrant medium that can speak to them.

"THE SECOND SHOW:" A musical that deals with any topic, so long as it can be presented in a fairly compact manner. We welcome musicals that deal with unconventional materials, and music that doesn't necessarily fit in the showtune range.

If you feel you have a script that fits the criteria, please email it to PWTheatre@gmail.com, with the subject line: "New Submission—Play One/Two." We are able to accept some mp3 clips of music.

Alternately, you may mail your script to
N.M. Lemery
1444 W Carmen, Apt 3
Chicago IL 60640

If you are submitting a musical, please send a CD containing musical selections you feel best reflect the style of the show. If you would like your materials returned, please include a SASE. Any scripts received after August 1st will NOT be read--we will not be accepting unsolicited material after this date!

We regret at this time we cannot offer any type of compensation, but we will be happy to email feedback for any script we receive prior to August 1st.

Thank you!
Nicole Lemery and Andrew Claude

CONGO SQUARE THEATRE COMPANY’S
AUGUST WILSON NEW PLAY INITIATIVE
The late August Wilson has been supportive of Congo Square Theatre Company since our inception as a donor, audience member and Founding Advisory Board member. Prior to his passing on Sunday, October 2, 2005, August Wilson requested that anyone choosing to make a donation in his name give funds to one of four organizations. Congo Square Theatre Company was one of the four not-for-profits, and is the only theater company chosen for this honor. Congo Square has established the August Wilson New Play Initiative to allow us to continue to give talented new playwrights like Chadwick Boseman (Deep Azure), Javon Johnson (The House That Jack Built), and Lydia Diamond (Stick Fly) a production forum for their work. Through open readings, development workshops, commissions and full productions, we will work to help develop the next generation of great American writers. Click on the icon to the right to make your tax-deductible contribution to the August Wilson New Play Initiative.

Congo Square Theatre Company is an ensemble dedicated to producing definitive and transformative theatre spawned from the African Diaspora, as well as from other world cultures. Congo Square Theatre Company seeks to establish itself as an institution of multicultural theatre.

We are interested in full-length plays, translations, adaptations, musicals and performance art. We will consider productions of previously produced plays.
We do not accept unsolicited scripts for consideration for our seasons. You may submit your play through a literary agent or accompanied by a letter of recommendation by a theater professional (i.e. an artistic director or literary manager at a professional theater). If neither of these apply to you, you may write a letter of inquiry to Aaron Todd Douglas, Associate Artistic Director, and submit a brief synopsis, cast list, relevant production history and 10-15 pages of sample dialogue. The company may then request a complete script.

No email or fax submissions accepted. Please include a SASE if you would like your materials returned. We accept submissions year-round.

QUANTUM THEATRE
Quantum Theatre is always on the lookout for new plays for development and production. Scripts that have previously been produced are acceptable.
To have your script considered, please submit a brief synopsis, a production history of your work, and a ten page sample of dialogue from the script. If we have further interest, we will contact you to request the entire script. We will respond as promptly as possible, but please allow 4 weeks for a response to your initial inquiry, and 8-10 weeks for script consideration.

SHOESTRING RADIO THEATRE
" Shoestring Radio Theatre" accepts submissions from writers. We are always looking for good, original radio plays of any genre. We have produced dozens of scripts submitted by writers from all over the world who originally found us on the web.

Format
Your script needs to be a radio play (i.e. no stage directions or visual cues). We do not accept stage plays or screenplays. Radio drama scripts should include only things you can hear… i.e. dialogue, sound effects and music cues (stings, transitions, etc.). There is no industry standard for radio drama script layout, so we will leave the exact formatting up to you; just make sure that it's easy to distinguish the dialogue from the sfx and music.

Length
To fit into our weekly 30-minute broadcast, plays can be a maximum of 28 minutes long (most scripts are about one minute per page but it depends on the formatting). Therefore, we accept 25-28 minute plays (which air in one part) and 50-56 minute plays (which air in two parts). We also accept shorts, which can be up to 10 minutes in length.

Fame Not Fortune
As a non-profit organization which really does operate on a shoestring budget, we do not pay for scripts at this point in time. However, if we produce your play, we absorb all production costs and it will air nationally on public radio stations across the country (including our RealAudio simulcast). You will also receive a copy of the finished production.

Agreement
If we accept your script, we will send you a writer's agreement, which:
--Grants us permission to produce your script
--Grants us Public Broadcasting rights to the finished production as well as the right to broadcast on Broadcast Services for The Blind
--Grants you, the writer, all rights to the original script

Feedback Policy
Unfortunately, due to the volume of scripts we receive, we cannot provide feedback on your scripts. Please do not be discouraged if we reject your submission. We reject scripts for any number of reasons, including excessive length, unsuitable content, and sometimes writing quality. Unfortunately, even if we really like the idea, we do not have time to work with writers to improve their scripts. Our advice is to keep writing as much as possible to gain experience, show your scripts to others for feedback, and take writing classes if you feel it would be helpful. Good luck!

Mailing Address
We accept only hard copies of scripts; we do not accept email submissions, although sometimes directors do ask for an electronic copy after a script has been accepted. Please mail scripts to:
Monica Sullivan, Producer
Shoestring Radio Theatre
P.O. Box 590163
San Francisco, CA 94159-0163

OUTLAWS THEATRE NYC
Seeking one-acts w/limited sets
Outlaws Theatre NYC is currently accepting script submissions for our 2007 season. We are most interested in one-act plays with limited sets. Please include with your script a brief synopsis of the show and character breakdown.

We are also seeking interested actors, directors, and anyone else who wants to get involved. To submit a script, express general interest, or to get in touch for any other reason, e-mail us at OutlawsNYC@gmail.com.

Outlaws Theatre got its start 16 years ago as an underground, experimental playwrights' workshop at Penn State University. The group's focus is on producing uncensored, original plays in an electrifying atmosphere and providing feedback for the artists involved.

In 2006, former members Sean Bradley, Stephen Burd, Jennifer Case, Vanessa Reseland, and Andy Saunders hatched a plan to bring Outlaws to the streets of New York City. Outlaws Theatre seeks to build a company of dedicated actors, directors, playwrights, and technicians to collaborate on quality black box theatre every month.
Each performance is followed by a brief talkback session, wherein the audience is encouraged to offer advice or ask questions of the writer, director, and performers. So, have a couple beers and tell us how you feel.

Join the party at 9:30 pm on the first Monday of every month at Jimmy's No. 43 ... and stick around for the after-party!

MADLAB THEATRE (Columbus, OH)
MadLab Theatre in Columbus, OH is seeking full length work for its 2008 season and beyond. Ideally, scripts should be long one-acts (70-90 minutes), or two-act plays (100-120) minutes. Feel free to email andy@madlab.net with questions.

Attention Playwrights
MadLab is now accepting "Full Length" submissions for its 2008 theatre season. That's right! For years we have accepted submissions short one act plays for our annual festival of new plays, Theatre Roulette. Now, we realize something has been missing. We...yearn for more. To help fill the empty void in our collective souls. We need...something longer. We need lots of them. So....please....go ahead! Send us your full length plays! Long one acts! Two acts! These will be considered for our regular theatre season.

Submission Guidelines
1. Play Length—Though we are up for anything, ideally scripts should be long one-acts (70-90 minutes) or two-acts plays (100-120 minutes). If you have something longer, please feel free to send it on.

2. Email Instructions-- you must email your script to us. If emailing is absolutely impossible for you, please call us at 614.221.5418 so we can make alternate arrangements. Please send your script attached as a Microsoft Word document or as in PDF format. Scripts should be emailed to andy@madlab.net. Please put "Madlab Theatre Season" as the subject line. If "madlab theatre season" is not your subject line, your submission may not be received. All submissions will receive a reply email to ensure that your submission was received.

3. Funeral Urn-- If you cannot submit via email and must send us a hard copy, please note that your script WILL NOT be returned to the applicant; MadLab will destroy all evidence of your creative instincts upon a funeral pyre at an undisclosed location in order to protect both the innocent and the guilty. Ashes will not be returned to you unless you purchase a commemorative urn from MadLab at the bargain basement price of $99.95.

4. Money-- MadLab pays a standard royalty of $200 + 10% of our box office for any playwright that is gracious enough to allow to produce his/her work. We know this will not be anywhere near worth the time and effort you put into writing your play, but we are happy that every little bit helps.

5. If you've made it through all of this, congratulations. At least you've got the potential patience to deal with the travails of theatrical production. If you have any questions, please email them to Managing Director Andy Batt at andy@madlab.net.

Thanks for your interest, good luck with your submission, and regardless of the outcome here, be sure to keep writing new work.

COTTEY COLLEGE THEATRE & SPEECH DEPARTMENT
We are a small energetic theatre program in a women's college and thus prefer all female casts. We attempt to balance our seasons by providing a variety of productions that work under that restriction; new plays as well as established contemporary plays, classics, plays from other cultures, musicals, experimental formats, children's plays. Classics by Moliere and Shakespeare have been cast gender-blind. Translations of plays to female casts are welcome as well as those translated from other cultures. Innovative children's plays that can utilize all female casts would most definitely catch our attention as we produce one children's play each year. Any new play should utilize all female casts to be seriously considered. We don't intentionally produce plays that will offend Midwestern audiences, but we do think plays with something important to say should be presented to adult audiences. We'd love to see more substantial comedies and dramas for women.

E-mail submission and E-mail query acceptable. Per-performance royalty paid.

PENGUIN REPERTORY THEATRE
Located in Rockland County just 30 minutes from New York City, Penguin Rep is a renowned Equity theater now celebrating its 30th season. Dubbed “the gutsiest little theatre” by The New York Times, Penguin Rep was founded by artistic director Joe Brancato with the aim of adding a new kind of theatre to the local cultural landscape: a professional enterprise dedicated to promoting new voices and works which enrich the body of American drama; nurturing and developing new talent for the stage; and reaching new audiences for theatre.

Having overseen more than 100 productions to date, Penguin Rep has been recognized across the country as a wellspring for new and notable work, including: Lee Blessing's Cobb, produced by Kevin Spacey at the Lucille Lortel Theatre and in Los Angeles (Drama Desk Award Winner for Best Ensemble); Alan Brandt's 21/2 Jews (transferred to an Off-Broadway run for nearly a year); Allan Knee's The Man Who Was Peter Pan (commissioned and originally presented by Penguin Rep and now a major motion picture starring Johnny Depp); Angelo Parra's The Devil's Music: The Life And Blues Of Bessie Smith; and One Shot, One Kill by Richard Vetere (originally produced at Penguin, now produced around the country by major regional theaters).

We are seeking scripts that have been previously unproduced in the New York metropolitan region. Submissions may have had a production outside of the New York region. Non-American plays will also be seriously considered. There are no topical restrictions or guidelines: We are interested in plays that investigate and honor the journey of the human spirit, in whatever form that takes.

ACTORS ART THEATRE
One of the smallest Equity Waiver theaters in LA, Actor’s Art Theatre, located in a converted apartment in the Mid Wilshire District is home to some of LA’s most talented stage and screen actors.

Dedicated to the belief that we are not separate from each other and have the capacity to empathize with all people; through the actor’s art, we can produce works that entertain and inspire change.

We are open to all styles of writing with a special interest in character driven comedies or dramas that ultimately lift the spirit. We are the smallest size professional theatre in Los Angeles (32 seats/stage is 16 feet across) - so the set requirements should be simple or flexible.

Submit one-act plays, full-length plays, translations, adaptations, ten-minute plays, solo pieces, cabaret revue. Send a query w/synopsis and sample dialogue; E-mail submission, E-mail query OK.

Artistic Director, Jolene Adams has developed over 50 productions. She starred in and produced Adam & Eva Marie, winner of 6 Drama-Logue Awards; directed and developed Dan Fante’s Ovation Award-nominated hit Boiler Room, (LA Times Best of The Year List); developed award winning comic Cathy Ladman’s Scaredypants for HBO/US Comedy Arts Festival and Emmy Award winning Mike Dugan’s Men Fake Foreplay.

Each year we present readings, labs and produce an original play, classic revival or West Coast Premiere. Some projects move to larger theaters and TV or screen development.

Central to our work is the Writing Out Loud Series where actors develop stories and once a week audiences can watch solo shows go from on-book brief monologues to ready for Off-Broadway plays.

Theater at AAT has been an intimate family experience for 12 years. A passionate cook who lives in the same building, artistic director, Adams, has been known to invite entire audiences over for supper after a show!

The Working Theater is seeking unproduced full-length plays that deal with working class issues.

Since 1985 the Working Theater has commissioned and produced the world premieres of over 40 culturally diverse new plays about working people. The Memphis sanitation workers strike of 1968, the devastating effects of pesticides on migrant farm workers, the planning and construction of New York City's third water tunnel, and retired working-class women gambling away their pensions in Atlantic City are just some of the many issues we have explored over the years. THE 7TH SIGN THEATER PRODUCTIONS
The 7th Sign is dedicated to producing original works. More than welcome, original plays are a strong focus of The 7th Sign. Currently, each new season promises to bring (at least) one new play to the stage. The 7th Sign believes that new plays are essential for the future of progressive theatre, offering a direct insight to recent events.

How to Submit a Play: It's simple. Send a Word-compatible document to: mail@7thsign.info

Keep in mind that the company focuses on recent events and important social matters. This doesn't mean we only accept political plays or dark brow-furrowing dramas (though we happen to produce those, as well). Comedies, love-stories, experimental pieces, one-acts (you name it!), there's a place for it. And while that 'place' may not be as a 7th Sign production, we cannot foretell the distant future of following seasons, so keep your heads up and fingers working...We Need You!

MAD RIVER THEATER WORKS
Mad River Theater Works is a professional repertory company that creates and produces plays that explore the concerns of people from farm communities and small towns of rural America with a strong emphasis on diversity and the importance of individual cultures.

We are seeking submissions of full-length or one-act plays or adaptations that speak to the joy and heartbreak of everyday life. We like writing that is daring, bold, passionate and imaginative. We respond strongly to plays that challenge conventional structures and ask us to hold on for the ride. We want to stretch the boundaries of space and time. At the same time, we reach out to audiences of all ages and economic levels: experienced theatergoers and folks who wandered in off the street. Many of our plays are historical but all must have a connection to current issues. Please send synopsis and sample dialogue, not full scripts. Selected scripts will be workshopped in our monthly staged reading series in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Most of the works we produce are plays with music, rather than musicals. A script should not have music in it at the stage of submission… We would prefer to see work from playwrights who are potentially interested in collaborating with musicians if we decide to produce a work beyond a staged reading.

Please expect a 3-month response time. Send all submissions, with SASE, if you would like materials returned, to:

DETROIT REPERTORY THEATRE SEEKS ISSUE-ORIENTED PLAYS
The Detroit Repertory Theatre welcomes new plays for production at our 194 seat, proscenium stage theatre. Our New Playwrights' Program is not a competition, festival, workshop or staged reading program. We consider plays writers feel are ready for production, not development.

We are interested in issue-oriented plays (a comedic approach is fine); 5 to 7 characters; no double casting, and we avoid plays that require children. No One Acts, please. We are not accepting musicals at this time.

Each season we produce, at least, one original work. All plays submitted should be:
– Bound in a folder
– Cast list provided
– Typewritten in proper manuscript form with pages numbered
– Include a SASE for return of the manuscript

Selection Process
The Literary Manager and an in-house team of directors reads and recommends scripts throughout the year to be considered for production. The Artistic Director reads the recommended scripts. The worthiness, importance, taste, artistry, capability, costs, talent available, and position in the season’s lineup of each recommended script is discussed and defended by members of the team and the Artistic Director at a special session. Then, the Artistic Director makes the final determination.

Playwrights wishing to submit scripts for consideration should address scripts to:
Detroit Repertory Theatre
c/o The Literary Manager
13103 Woodrow Wilson St
Detroit MI 48238-3686.

SALAAM Theatre
Our mission is to celebrate artistic excellence through creative risk-taking and experimentation that challenges all boundaries, connects all peoples and links all forms of creative expression in the spirit of progressive solidarity. We do prefer to have plays written by or include characters from the South Asian diaspora.

Young and emerging writers as well as experienced and professional playwrights are encouraged to submit their work. You don't have to be South Asian to submit a play! It is encouraged that plays deal with either issues related to the South Asian subcontinent or South Asia in some literal or metaphorical way. If you feel your play doesn't exactly fit that bill but is only tangentially related to South Asia, submit anyway! REMEMBER: Scripts must be original, plays do not have to be contemporary and writers may submit more than one script.

SHOTGUN PRODUCTIONS, INC.
We have no special style or subject though we tend to be more interested in dramas or dark comedies that speak to social conditions, current issues and cultural differences. We are interested in mix media productions that are stage-based and have, on occasion, produced works that include dance, music and/or video.

Most accepted submissions start in our New Playwright's Reading Series, (NPRS). This program may include one or more of the following; work with a dramaturge, director, casting director and/or choreographer; continued public and/or private readings; workshops; showcases; backer's auditions. Our goal is to provide a nurturing, supportive atmosphere for
