Class Type: The Play Class Level: All Are Welcome

This class is Part One of a Series to be offered this year at the Playwrights' Center in partnership with Uprising Theatre Company and Mixed Blood Theatre.

Recognizing the wealth of transgender and nonbinary artists from all disciplines in the Twin Cities, we are partnering to offer in-person masterclasses for this robust community. We hope these classes will give trans/nonbinary artists the space to create and develop their work for the stage. These classes are open to anyone who identifies in and around the transgender/nonbinary/agender prism at any artistic level. Participants will learn from trans and nonbinary playwrights and build community with fellow artists. If you’ve ever been interested in writing for staged performance this is your chance!

Wednesday, January 29, 2020 - 6:00pm - 8:30pm CST w/Basil Kreimendahl

Saturday, February 1, 2020 - 10:00am - 12:30pm CST w/Basil Kreimendahl

Note: These first two sessions are the beginning of a larger series designed to build writing skills for the stage. More dates and teachers are TBA.

"It is more important now more than ever for trans and gender-nonconforming people to be the architects of our own narratives." - Tourmaline

This five-hour class, taught by affiliated writer and award-winning playwright Basil Kreimendahl, is designed for the beginner or intermediate artist. This class will focus on language and dialogue.

Important Things to Note:

  • This class will take place in-person over two sessions at the Playwrights' Center. Participants should plan to attend both sessions.
  • Thanks to our shared partnership with Uprising Theatre Company, we are thrilled to offer this class at the subsidized rate of $25 total. The money from this class goes directly toward fair compensation for the instructor. Payment plans and scholarships are available as needed; please contact H. Adam at hadamh@pwcenter.org with any financial concerns.
