In this workshop with Jerome Fellow Candrice Jones we will explore ways in which playwrights use forms/structures outside of the traditional Aristotelian structure to create narrative. Examples that will be explored are August Wilson’s use of the trickster narrative in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, Hansol Jung’s use of memory to influence structure in her play Among the Dead, and Candrice Jones’s FLEX which is narrated within the structure of a four-quarter basketball game.
This is the class for you if you:
- Want to explore a different structure in your writing
- Are interested in writing a non-traditional story
- Seek better understanding on how structure impacts playwriting
PostScript: Candrice's world premiere of FLEX at the 44th Humana Festival of New Plays was postponed earlier this year due to Covid-19. Read an excerpt and learn more about the play here.
