At the PWC this week: John Olive

Core Writer John Olive is workshopping How the Ghost of You Clings: The Anna May Wong Story at the Playwrights’ Center this week, with director Kate Powers and actors Sun Mee Chomet*, Eric “Pogi” Sumangil*, and Aimee K. Bryant* (*Member of Actors' Equity). Learn a bit about John in this mini-interview:

What do you like about writing for young audiences?

Freedom! Color! Creativity! With TYA you can’t be too quirky, too outlandish, too surreal. Qualities that get quashed in “adult” theater are celebrated in TYA. Hearing young audiences laugh! There’s nothing like this on earth.

Finish this sentence: If I weren’t a playwright I would be…

…miserable. I’m only happy when my pen is scratching the notepad. I can’t think of another way to live. Next time we meet I’ll show you my permanent playwright’s callous.

What have you been working on this year?

Marketing my book Tell Me A Story In The Dark. Finding publishers for Deep River. Finishing Smartass. Recording audiobooks. Finding producers for my TYA adapation of The Sisters Eight. Writing reviews for www.HowWasTheShow.com. And writing new plays, always.
