In this seminar with Jerome Fellow Shannon TL Kearns: Participants can expect to learn about tactics for writing justice plays with nuance, exercises to go deep into character motivation, and how to connect the political with the personal. This class is especially helpful for all writers who are interested in writing plays about justice issues. In a world that is clamoring for better stories about important issues, writers need to take care to present ideas with clarity and create space for empathy to be built and understanding to occur. In this seminar, we'll talk about how to write issue-based plays that aren't preachy and strident but instead invite conversation.
This is the class for you if you:
- Believe in the power of theatre to create change
- Want to write a play that inspires dialogue about important issues
- Think of yourself as an activist artist
PostScript: Shannon is the founder of Uprising Theatre Company, you can also check out his artist statement.
