Biography

Elaine Alexander is a Charlotte playwright, actress and licensed, professional helicopter parent. She is known to audiences at Charlotte’s Black Box Theatre for writing and performing comic monologues that satirize PTA fashion dictatorship, upscale “cougars” behaving badly and other suburban sins. Her play "Life As We Know It" is being produced by The Gilbert Theater, a semi-equity theater in Fayetteville, N.C. and will run for nine shows, Dec. 27-Jan. 6. She has also had one-act comedies produced at Theatre Charlotte, The Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius and Main Street Theatre in Rock Hill, SC. In her previous incarnations, she has been an entertainment reporter for Freedom Newspapers, a national magazine editor and an advertising copywriter. A University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduate, Elaine is a member of The Actor’s Lab, Carolina Playwrights and The Dramatists Guild.
